Saturday, 10 October 2009 09:22

AUGUST 25TH 2009

The Tura Beach Ladies Bowling Club celebrated a significant achievement with the unfurling of two State Pennant flags at a ceremony on August 25th.

NSW Women's Bowls Association President Jewel Buchanan was present to officially unfurl the flags.

On arrival at the club she was welcomed by a guard of honour and bowlers and piped into the club rooms by three pipers and a drummer from Batemans Bay Soldiers Club Pipe Band.

The day began with morning tea at which Club President Dorothy Campbell welcomed the Sate President as well as District President Gwen McKenzie and all those present for the event including Bill Rogers, chairman of Club Sapphire, Bega Imlay District WBA President, Leny Jackson, TBMB President, Terry Jackson and Damien Foley, Club Sapphire CEO.

After the morning tea bowlers assembled on the bowling green and the State President was introduced to the winning Pennant teams. She then unfurled the Grade 3 and Grade 4 Pennant flags.

The Tura Beach Ladies Club is unique in having two winning teams in the same year.

The State President and local Ladies President  then joined the bowlers in a short game and after, at the luncheon, they both spoke and exchanged gifts. A cake was cut by State President Jewel with help from Patron of the BIDWBA, Betty Carroll who later expressed her good wishes to the Tura Beach ladies.

The day was enjoyed by all who were present.
