Club Bowls Winter Carnival
Sunday, July 4 heralded the official start to our 24th Winter Carnival with the first day of the Ladies Pairs. The mother and daughter team of Margaret Barr and Pam Reynolds were the worthy victors winning all six matches over the two days for 12 points and a shot margin of +80. Visitors filled the next 2 placing with M Jennings and J McGrath in second place on 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +41. The third place getters were G Savill and L Smith with 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +33.
The next event, played over Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8, the Mixed Triples went to the Finley team of Mary, Gordon and Ashley Haines with 12 points from 6 wins and a shot margin of +45. Another family firm, Pam, Mike and Jamie Reynolds were a point behind on 11 points from 5 wins and a draw with a shot margin of +44. Third place went to Maureen Jennings, John McGrath and Joy McGrath with 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +41.
Mixed Pairs (1) over Thursday and Friday saw the Tura team of Ann and Lance Lamond convincing winners of all 6 matches to record 12 points and a shot margin of +59. In second place were M and C Chaplin with 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +44 just shading Tura's Mary and Les Firth on 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +39
The forecast 18 degrees for Saturday's day one of the Men's Pairs failed to materialise with a top of 14 degrees closer to the mark, however the second day, Sunday 11 turned on a great winters day.
The Merimbula team of Ian Beveridge and Wayne Taylor were the clear victors, winning all 6 games for 12 points and a shot margin of +55. Second place went to N Gribbin and Ken Edwards with 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +37. N Overson and A Cousens finished in third spot with 10 points from 5 wins and a shot margin of +32.
The social highlight of the Carnival, the Carnival Dinner will be held on Thursday, July 15 and the final round of the Mixed Fours will round off events on Friday, July 17.
