TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 409
Club Bowls
Round three of the Club Pairs played on Thursday, June 10 provided an afternoon of interesting bowling with one comfortable win and three matches that could have gone either way.
Vic Finlay and Jack Findlay were to strong on the day recording the comfortable win over Don Fergusson and Les Rizzetti .
Steve Davies and Campbell Connal defeated Eric Maddern and Mike Reynolds 27/20. Steve and Campbell overcame a slow start, down 0/5 after the second end, racing away to lead 22/10 after end 16. Eric and Mike rallied to be down 19/23 with two ends to play before a 4 to Steve and Campbell on the second last end sealed their win.
Les Firth and Russell Cook defeated Eric Joslin and Joe Bradshaw 22/18. Leading 13/4 after end 9 their lead had been reduced to 15/13 after end 16 before Les and Russell won 4 of the remaining 5 ends to take the match.
The fourth match was a real cliff hanger with Kel Duncombe and Graham Burton holding on to win 21/20over Pat Quigley and Ken Edwards. After an even start and leading 8/7 after end 10, 3 great ends took Kel and Graham to the lead 17/7. With 2 ends to play their lead was 21/15 before Pat and Ken responded with a 3 and a 2 falling short by a single shot to force an extra end.
The semi-finals of the Pairs are set down for Saturday, June 19 with the final to be played on Sunday, June 20.
De-Amalgamation A reminder that the Information meeting to give Tura members an up date on the Steering Committee's approaches to the De-Amalgamation procedures is to be held at Tura on Wednesday, June 16 at 5.30 pm. Merimbula-Imlay's CEO Damien Foley and the members of the Steering Committee will be in attendance to respond to members questions.
Social Bowls Wednesday June 7 The Men's Bowls went to Bob Knight and Jack Findlay with 21 points from Geoff Gurney, Don Pope and Hans Pynenburg on 20 points.
Friday June 11 The Nominated Pairs went to Jan Duncombe and Pat Quigley on 2+15, from Ted Young and John O'Donnell, runners up on 2+10. The single game winners were Peter Wells and RYavics on 1+12 1+11.
