TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 408
Club Bowls
The second round of the Club Pairs got underway on Thursday with a single match resulting in a comfortable win to Vic Finlay and Jack Findlay over Gary Woods and Bruce Jefferies.
Six matches were played on Saturday providing some close results and a high standard of bowls. In a low scoring encounter Don Fergusson and Les Rizzetti 17 defeated Don Pope and Lance Lamond 14. Down 2/15 after end 12 Don and Lance won 8 of the remaining 9 ends just failing to bridge the gap.
Kel Dumcombe and Graham Burton 28 defeated Marty and Ross Orsborn 12. After a strong start Kel and Graham were never headed.
Eric Maddern and Mike Reynolds 21 defeated Ross Davies and Hans Pynenburge 11. Again a strong start saw Eric and Mike lead all the way.
Eric Joslin and Joe Bradshaw 26 defeated Barry Rusling and John Jesnia 23. After end 12 the score was level at 14/14. However a 5 on the next end gave the lead to Eric and Joe setting them up for the win.
Les Firth and Russell Cook 25 defeated Dennis Vaughan and Terry Och 13. Leading 10/6 after end 9 Les and Russell won the next 7 ends to lead 22/6 on their way to the win.
Pat Quigley and Ken Edwards 22 defeated Rob Pearsall and Terry Jackson 17. Rob and Terry had led early in the match before Pat and Ken scored 9 shots in 3 ends to lead 13/5. By end 18 the scores were level at 16/16 with Rob and Terry holding 4 shots until, with his last bowl Ken broke up the head to record 3 shots. A 3 on the next end put the match beyond doubt.
De-Amalgamation
An Information meeting to give Tura members an up date on the Steering Committee's approaches to the De-Amalgamation procedures is to be held at Tura on Wednesday, June 16 at 6.00 pm. Merimbula-Imlay's CEO Damien Foley and the members of the Steering Committee will be in attendance to respond to members questions.
Social Bowls Wednesday June 2 The monthly "Joe's Special" was decided by a count back when two teams finished with 19 points and the same number of ends won. Ted Young, George Barr and Peter Wells had the better of the count back finishing 18 shots up to the runners up, Alan Robins, Allan Cockroft and Mike Reynolds 6.
Friday June 4 The Nominated Pairs went to Nancy and Joe Bradshaw with 2+16 from Pam and Mike Reynolds, runners up on 2+3. The single game winners were Tony Sawkins and Kel Duncombe on 1+11.
