Club Bowls

Round one of the Club Pairs on Saturday, May 29 resulted in the usual mix of comfortable wins and close results.

Dennis Vaughan and Terry Och 18 defeated David Lewis and Peter Wells 16. With Dennis and Terry leading 17/16 with one end to play David and Peter were holding three shots until with his last bowl Dennis drew a toucher to clinch the match.

Les Firth and Russell Cook defeated Tony Shaw and David Manovski 26/11. With the scores level at 6/6 after end 8 a 5 on the next end shot Les and Russell to the lead on their way to a convincing win.

Barry Rusling and John Jesina defeated Bob Hart and Ron Steven 25/18. With the scores level 17/17 after end 16 Barry and John won 4 of the remaining 5 ends to take the match.

Steve Davies and Campbell Connal defeated Alan Buckley and David Blake 26/24. Steve and Campbell lead 25/19 after end 18 before a late run from Alan and David reduced the lead to 25/24 with one end to play. However, Steve and Campbell held on with a single shot on end 21 to take the match.

Trevor Mort and Barry Brown had the more fancied pair of Pat Quigley and Ken Edwards looking over their shoulders at the end of their match. Leading 24/12 with 5 ends to play

Pat and Ken looked home and hosed until Trevor and Barry won all the remaining ends to fall just 4 shots short, going down 20/24.

Rob Pearsall and Terry Jackson defeated Ron Henkel and Peter Hamer 21/16. Down 21/8 with 3 ends to play Ron and Peter won the last 3 ends to narrow the margin.
