TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 398

 

Pennant Bowls

This week Tura only hosted one match when grade 4 played Merimbula 5. Other match contested were grade 3 played Tathra, grade 5 played Bega and grade 7 played Eden.

The results were:-

Grade 3, Tura Beach 5 points 70 shots, defeated Tathra 1 points 55 shots. Kel Duncombe, Vic Finlay, Russell Cook and Graham Burton won 31/12. Pat Quigley, Lance Lamond, , Campbell Connal  and Ken Edwards won 26/14. David Lewis, Les Firth, Eric Maddern and Mike Reynolds lost 13//29.

 

Grades 4, 2 points 58 shots lost to Merimbula grade 5,4 points 59 shots, Ron Henkel, Alan Rowlinson, Terry Jackson and Roger Hayes won 21/12   Dennis Vaughan, Rob Pearsall, Peter Wells and Jack Findlay lost 11/29, Tony Shaw, Eric Joslin, , Kevin West, and Terry Och won 26/18.

 

Grade 5, 5 point 63 shots defeated to Bega, 1 point 51shots, Trevor Mort, Barry Rusling, Neil Clough and Ross Orsborn lost 14/17. Tony Sawkins, Gary Woods, Steve Davies and Dave Manovski won 26/12. Don Pope, Joe Bradshaw, John Jesina and Barry Brown won 23/22.

 

Grade 7, Tura Beach 4 points 62 shots defeated Eden 2 points 59 shots. Alan Buckley, Don Fergusson, John O'Donnell, and Bruce Jeffries won 24/16. Ross Davies, Bill Gilligan, Bob Hart and Les Rizzetti lost 23/19. Marty Orsborn, Graham McGrath-Smith, Ron Stevens and Peter Hamer lost 19/20.

 

Next weeks round 8 matches are, grade 3 play Bega at Bega, grades 4 play Tura (5) at Tura, grade 5 play Tura (4) at Tura and grade 7 play Bega at Bega.

Veterans Singles

The last Tura bowler in this event, Terry Jackson was eliminated by Bega's Bob McNaught in the semi final at Eden on Friday, March 26.

 

Veterans Pairs

In round 3 matches at Bega in the all Tura match Les Rizzetti and Bill Daniels were defeated by Eric Joslin and Lance Lamond. The other Tura team of Pat Quigley and Eric Maddern were eliminated.

 

Senior Pairs

Roger Hayes and Graham Burton lost the final of this event to the Merimbula pair of Dennis Altmann and Phil Burns at Tathra on Saturday, March. A very pleasing aspect of the afternoon was the great attendance shown by Tura members, 25 or so turned up to support our team.

Encouragement Singles

In the closest of matches Ross Davies defeated Kel Duncombe 31/30 to win the 2010 Encouragement Singles.

 

With the scores level at 26/26 Kel kicked away to lead 30/26. Ross recorded single shots on the next 2 ends to be down 28/30. With Kel holding 2 shots and the match, Ross's last bowl picked up the kitty and trailed in for 3 shots. With his last bowl Kel just failed to cut back Ross's score going down by a single shot.

 

Social Bowls

Wednesday March 24

The Men's Triples went to Herby Konkel, Alan Buckley and Joe Bradshaw with 22 points. Adrian Blyth, Gary Woods and Ray Heron were runners up with 20 points.

 

Thursday March 25

Tura hosted a visit by a group of bowlers from Rye in Victoria, the light hearted afternoon of bowls being enjoyed by Tura members and visitors alike.

 

Friday March 26

The Nominated Pairs went Trevor Mort and Campbell Connal with 2+12. Runners up with 2+11 were Loraine and Barry Brown with Lesley Calmap and Frank LaScala the single game winners with 1+ 5.
