TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 389
Pennant Practice The end of the pre-pennant series of practice sessions was rounded off with barbeque on Sunday, January31 at the conclusion of the last of the practice matches involving a mix of teams from all the four grades.
On behalf of the Committee I wish to thank all of our members that participated in the series of practice matches, the Match Committee members for their efforts in the organisation of these events and also, their "hands on" approach and keen interest in all grades.
Also, a big thank you to our Lady Bowlers for running the barbeque.
Next Sunday, February 7 the 2010 Pennant series gets underway with Grade 3 away to Merimbula, Grade 4 away to Bega, Grade 5 away to Bombala and Grade 7 hosting Tathra.
Club Bowls The second round of the Veterans Singles held on Thursday, January 28 provided a mix of comfortable wins and very close results. Eric Maddern 25 defeated David Blake 24 with a 4 on the last end after the scores were level 24/24. Terry Jackson 25 defeated Trevor Mort 14. Roger Hayes 25 defeated Barry Brown 20. David Lewis 25 defeated John O'Donnell 18. Bill Daniels 25 defeated Peter Evans 16. Jack Findlay 25 defeated Ted Young 6 and in the closest match of the round Don Fergusson 25 defeated Ron Henkel 24 scoring two shots on the last end after Ron led 24/23.
District Bowls Saturday, January 30 marked the first two rounds of the District Fours at Tathra. Once again Tura Beach provided the lion's share of the teams with 8 of the 22 teams entered.
In round one Graham Burton's team won 27/13. Les Rizzittee's team were just pitted on the post 16/17 after a great effort. Roger Hayes's team went down 14/18.Campbell Connal's team lost 19/20 and mike Reynolds's team won 26/13.
The afternoon's second round saw Tura reinforcements arrive in the shape of Russell Cook's Bruce Jeffries's and Jack Findlay's teams all receiving byes in round one.
Second rounds results were, Jack Findlay's team lost 22/25. Russell Cook's team lost 16/24. Bruce Jeffries's team lost 12/25 and in the all Tura match Graham Bruton's team defeated Mike Reynolds's team 19/18, leaving Rob Pearsall, Terry Jackson, Lance Lamond and Graham Burton the only Tura team making the third round.
Social Bowls Wednesday January27 Dennis Vaughan, Ron Henkel, Hans Pynenburg and Barry Brown with 24 points won the day from Jon Harrod, Howard Hutton, Alan Rowlinson and Campbell Connal on 22 points.
Friday January29 The Nominated Pairs went to Ruth Thompson and K Burns with 2+13. Shirley Sunderland and Irene Oliver were the single game winners on 1+7.
