TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 387

 Tura Beach / Bermagui Shield

The 2010 bowling year got off to a flying start for Tura Beach with a convincing six games to nil win in the annual preseason shield match with Bermagui on Saturday, January 9 at Tura.

Played in the pennant format, with two sides of three four player teams from each club, all Tura teams performed well recording comfortable wins.

Tony Shaw, Mike Reynolds, Les Firth and Russell Cook won 29/14. Eric Joslin, Hans Pynenburg, Eric Maddern and Campbell Connal won 29/14. Kel Duncombe, Vic Finlay, Terry Och and Ken Edwards won 23/13. Dennis Vaughan, Rob Pearsall, Peter Wells and Jack Findlay won 25/11. Ray Heron, David Lewis, Stuart Walsh and Lance Lamond won 22/10. Ron Henkel, Alan Rowlinson, Terry Jackson and Roger Hayes won 32/12.

Pennant Practice

Players not involved in the Saturday matches played  keenly contested pennant practice games on Sunday demonstrating that the match committee have a depth of bowlers to make up the four sides, grades3,4,5and 7, still with capable reserves in the 2010 pennant season.

It was pleasing to see 4 of the 5 match committee members attending these practice matches so to enable them to assess the form of the bowlers involved.

Tura Beach / Merimbula Challenge Shield

This annual event, usually held at Merimbula, will this year be hosted by Tura due to the unavailability of the Merimbula greens due to maintenance, limiting the field to four twelve player sides from each club. Teams selected will be on the notice board.
