Club Bowls

Three matches in quarter finals of the Mixed Pairs were played on Saturday November 14 all resulting in comfortable wins. Mary and Les Firth defeated Daphne Nagle (sub for Carol Criddle) and Jack Findlay 21/11.  Bev Whiteside and Russell Cook defeated Jan and Eric Joslin 27/13, and Pam and Mike Reynolds defeated Jan and Kel Duncombe 23/9.

 Play was interrupted and the bowlers had to scatter when the green staff turned on the sprinkler system of the bottom green in error for that of the top green which is out of play for maintenance.

The fourth match, Carol and Roger Hayes verses Alan Rowlinson and Shirley Sunderland is to be played this week

Sunday’s second round of the Club Fours provided very tight matches with some of the more fancied teams going down.

 Ray Heron, Steve Davies, Hans Pynenburg and Campbell Connal defeated Gene Dunn, Rob Pearsall, Terry Jackson and Lance Lamond 16/13, and Dennis Vaughan, Vic Finlay, Graham Burton and Jack Findlay defeated B Gilligan, Gary Woods, Eric Joslin and Greg O’Brien 17/13.

 The other two matches went right to the last end with the “outsiders” prevailing. Tony Sawkins, Barry Rayner, Peter Evans and Bruce Jeffries 21 defeated Boyd Campbell, David Lewis, Don Pope and Pat Quigley 19. Bruce’s team got off to a good start to lead 12/5 after 10 ends. After 18 ends Pat’s team led 19/16 before twos on the next two ends gave Bruce the lead 20/19 with one end to play. With Pat’s team holding shot Bruce drew a resting toucher with his last bowl to clinch the win.

The remaining match went to Kel Duncombe, Alan Rowlinson, Roger Hayes and Terry Och defeating Terry Brooks, Stewart Walsh, Les Firth and Russell Cook 18/17. In a great finish to an extremely close contest, the scores were level on five occasions after ends 3,13,15,17 and 20 a single shot on the last end was the difference.    

The semi finals of this event will be played next Sunday, November 22.

Social Bowls

Wednesday November 11

With the top green out of play the format for the Wednesday Men’s bowls has changed to Fours. Dennis Vaughan, John O’Donnell, Les Rizzetti and Eric Maddern were the clear winners with 24 points from the Snelling brothers John and Ray, Herb Konkel and Terry Jackson runners up with 20 points. 

Friday November 13

Claire and Hans Pynenburg returned to the winners list with 2+14 from Ray Heron and Mike Reynolds runners up with 2+5. Don Pope and Neil Clough were the single game winners with 1+13.
