TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 378

 

Club Bowls

The Mixed Pairs for 2009 got off to a flying start with 10 matches played on Saturday, October 24. The competition this year, with the largest number of entries for some time is very keen and already some of the more fancied teams have been eliminated as the following results show.

Jan and Eric Joslin defeated Mavis Taylor and Bill Daniels 40/8. Bev Whiteside and Russell Cook defeated Eric Maddern 28/17. Kevin Cox and Elma Vaughan defeated Betty O’Dwyer and Campbell Connal 27/15. Mary and Les Firth defeated Ann and Lance Lamond 27/19. Carol Criddle and Jack Findlay defeated Rae Stove and Peter Evans 23/13. Cheryl and Gary Woods defeated Don and Sue Pope 20/18. Carol and Roger Hayes defeated Maureen Spicer and Terry Jackson 28/13. Pam and Mike Reynolds defeated Barbara Collins and Rob Pearsall 25/10. Boyd and Dorothy Campbell defeated Lyn Jacobsen and Pat Quigley 21/16. And with the scores level at 20/20 after end 20 Jan and Kel Duncombe defeated Clair and Hans Pynenburge 22/20.  

 

On Thursday for the second week in a row Tura hosted a visit by the Northern Rivers District Touring Group, this time the “Challengers”.  Once again our visitors proved to be a great bunch of bowlers and a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

 

Social Bowls

 

Wednesday October 21

The monthly IGA Day Men’s Triples went to Eric Heads, Dennis Luck and Bob Hart with 2+22. Adrian Blyth, Boyd Campbell and Lance Lamond were runners up with 2+7 and the single game winners were Jon Harrod, Kevin Cox and John Snelling with 1+8.

 

Next month’s IGA Day will be played as Men’s Fours as the top green will be out of play due to maintenance.

Thursday October 22

Visit by the Northern Rivers District Touring Group

 

Again, in what proved to be a great result for the Hayes’s, Tura teams finished in first and second spots. Cheryl Woods, Kel Duncombe, Bill Daniels and Roger Hayes winning with 21 points and Die Orsborne, Alan Buckley, Betty O’Dwyer and Carol Hayes runners up with 20 points.
