Handicap Singles

The final of the Handicap Singles played in extremely windy conditions on Saturday, September 12 went to Lance Lamond defeating Terry Jackson 31/29 in 42 ends. Both bowlers struggled with the gusty west wind needing to push the bowl playing towards the clubhouse while gently releasing the bowl playing the opposite end.

Terry led 23/13 after end 26 before Lance rallied taking nine of the next twelve ends to lead 27/26 after end 38. Terry hit back to lead 29/27 followed by 2 shots to Lance on end 41 to have the game locked up at 29/29. Two great bowls from lance that Terry could not match on end 42 won Lance the day in what was a fitting finals match.   

 Major / Minor Pairs

Both semi finals of the Major Minor Pairs on Thursday, September 10 provided close matches.

Although Gene Dunn and Campbell Connal (-10) defeated Barry Rusling and John Jesina     (-8) 21/15 they only led 16/15 with three ends to play which they won making the win appear comfortable.

The other semi between Kevin Cox and Eric Joslin (-7) and Alan Buckley and Greg O’Brian (- 6) was a classic cliff hanger being decided with the last bowl of the match.

Kevin and Eric started well to lead 3/1 after 4 ends. By end 9 Alan and Greg led 7/4 and continued to lead by 1 or 2 shots to lead 15/14 with 1 end to play.

Down one shot that would have forced an extra end, Greg played his last bowl, a weighted shot aiming to remove the shot bowl. However, he knocked a very short oppression bowl up into the count to go down 15/16.       

The final of this event will be played on Thursday, September 17 at 12.30 pm.

Social Bowls

Wednesday September 9

Peter Evans, Ray Heron and Hans Pynenburg were comfortable winners of the Wednesday Men’s bowls with 25 points. Runners up on count back were Gene Dunn, Don Pope and Greg O’Brien with 20 points.

Friday, September 11

Ross Davies and Neil Clough were winners of the Nominated Pairs with Daphne Nagle and Dorothy Campbell runners up. The single game winners were Kevin Cox and Bob Hart.
