TURA BEACH MENS BOWLS REPORT No 406

Club Bowls

The Club Singles dominated last weeks bowls with Quarter Finals on Thursday, Semi Finals on Saturday and Final on Sunday.

Thursday's Quarter Finals resulted in Les Firth defeating Russell Cook 31/13, Graham Burton defeated Pat Quigley 31/24, Eric Maddern defeated Ron Henkel 31/13 and in a much closer match than the score reflects Mike Reynolds defeated Ross Davies 31/24.

The Semi Finals on Saturday saw Graham Burton play Eric Maddern and Les Firth play Mike Reynolds.

Graham and Eric went head for head for the first 15 ends with Eric leading 11/9. However Eric then took command of the match winning 11 of the next 16 ends to win 31/16.

The other match went to Mike 31/20 after he staged an unbelievable finish. With Les leading 20/13 after 20 ends Mike came home with a wet sail not allowing Les another shot and winning eight ends on the trot to take the match 31/20.

The stage was set for a great Final on Sunday between Eric and Mike, both past winners of the Club Singles.

The standard of bowling was outstanding from both players and the thirty plus spectators were treated a great display of draw bowling, Eric was too good on the day winning 31/13 a score that did not represent the quality of the match.

Starting well, Eric lead 10/7 after 10 ends. By end 20 he lead 22/11 before drawing away winning 6 of the last 8 ends to win 31/13.

A sheet is on the board for the names of Bowler who will be available for the 2011 Pennant season. This may seen a little early but the Match Committee must nominate by August the number of teams Tura will field next year. This year we were just short of players to enter five sides which resulted in bowlers missing out on regular matches.

The aim is to nominate five sides next year and the Match Committee must know your response to make a decision if this practicable.
