Report on working bees Mr Weir reported that 14 volunteers, including 3 ladies, did a great job of cleaning & mulching the gardens at the 15thrd. tee. Another working bee is scheduled for Monday May 3 b. Report on Course Management Committee The Club Professional has advised that we are enjoying improved green fee playing numbers. In March we had 240 players referred by accommodation houses. It is suggested that when groups of 8 or more book in for golf, that we should be offering the use of the courtesy bus. Mr. Brown will follow this up with the pro shop. Mr. Channon reported that Rawlins electrical in conjunction with Country Energy have completed the necessary upgrade to the switchboard. The Course Superintendant has reported to Rainbird that the jockey pump is not getting up to its full pressure. The cart paths on the 12th and 14th holes are going ahead after 21st April. The Course Superintendant has lowered the pump pressure for the irrigation system; this has resulted in a very real drop in the number of pipe blowouts, but this has reduced the flow of irrigation water. We suffered a pipe blowout under Pacific Way. We will need to have a contractor bore a new larger under the road to enable a new pipe to be installed. Mr. Miller has a quote of approx $6000, he will seek another quote. The Ladies 11th tee has had new turf laid. The Course Superintendant intends to seed the area right of the 7th fairway, where the free fill has been spread. The Captain has posted a Local Rule to cover this area. There is a new local rule giving relief from the track on the 17th. It was noted that next Spring there will be a Primary cut added to the fairway edges. It is noted that the practice green is slowly progressing and the Course Superintendant is intending to cut it to 4mm by the end of April. The bubblers for the 9th and 12th holes are being installed very soon. c. New handicapping system Golf Australia's handicapping system has began as scheduled on 9th April. d. USGA course rating system in Australia Mr. Channon advised that the Training course schedule for raters has been published. Our rater Mr. Rogers will be attending the 12th course at Narooma in late July. e. Replacement computer system We do not have to make any decision in the short term. f. Greens roller sharing Mr. Brown and Mr. Weire will discuss the concept of sharing equipment with the President of Pambula Merimbula in the near future. g. TREASURER'S REPORT - APRIL 2010 MEETING Competition playing numbers in March 2010 were again significantly less than the same month in the previous. The average daily fields in March were as follows: Saturday 104 compared to 106 last year (however the 2010 figures included the Denis Plummer memorial day which was the largest Saturday field for many years due to the visitors from the mountains coming down for the day) ; Tuesday 79 (cf 93) and Thursday 26 (cf 22). The Board decision to reduce the Comp Fee from 1 July may help to restore fields to their previous strength. In this report, Income ($5,522) was slightly greater than Expenses ($5,363) mainly due to the inclusion of the first payments of income from the upcoming Week of Golf ($1,300). The March income also includes normal Beer Raffle and Chicken Run revenue and three members' Trophy donations. Expenses in March include Pennant Expenses (Shirts, BBQs and travel), as well as the transport of the wood chipper ($250) and some initial Week of Golf expenses (printing of brochures, stationery, etc). Members have also continued to redeem vouchers at a good rate and the level of unredeemed vouchers has fallen from $4,035 to $3,250. As a result the Approximate Surplus at the end of March has risen slightly to $14,829 but remains just under $5,000 less than at the start of the financial year. The next month's figures should include the remainder of the "significant" Week of Golf income and expenses.
6. CAPTAIN'S REPORT Mr. Channon advised that a Rules of Golf accreditation course will be held at Narooma on May 5th. The Seniors won their Pennant final on April 18th. The Pennant finals and dinner were held at Tura. We had a large turn up for the dinner and our caterers did a fine job. Mr. Channon has painted some pavers and will install them in the new positions for the different course ratings. New local rules have been listed for both the 7th and the 12th. The Matchplay series is well under way. The computer in the upstairs tunnel MUST NOT BE TURNED OFF, as this is our main GOLFLINK access. Volunteers are wanted in early May to process the cards for the Bridgestone "Jurrassic Classic" at Bega and Eden. It was pointed out that if we are rostered on to process the competition results, then we are not there to drink with our mates. It is important that BOTH people are there to help and countersign vouchers. Roster Provided Separately. Absences Terry: 20th April - 4th May Russell: 26th April - 31st April, 16th May - 21st May Norm: 5th May - 10th May Greg: 25th May - 1st June OTHER BUSINESS
